EVALUATION QUESTION 1 PART 2

Transitions in 'Evanescent'

Most of the transitions in my short film were fades and dissolves into the next scene, with cross cuts to create unease for the audience and leave them feeling intrigued at the beginning and give them the incentive to keep watching the film. To keep the audience entertained and at the edge of their seats,  I added music along with the transitions to establish the narrative. With the transitions, especially the one at the end where the ghost 'Rosalie' reveals herself, here is a gif to show the bit of the short film;

This particular scene adheres to the codes and conventions of the genre and that of the short film too. The colour change from normal to yellow also creates an enigma as to whether we have entered a different world, it leaves the audience questioning whether we have left our reality and entered Paloma's world in her head, a world which establishes that Rosalie is a manifestation of Paloma's mind, or Rosalie's world? The ambiguity at the end is done for effect on the audience.

This particular effect I used is to establish a flashback which is out of time by making it dreamlike in the way it looks, making it ethereal and the sound is incoherent, and muffled and this is deliberate so that the audience can distinguish between the two different times.

I added this effect to change this scene from normal to a blue-ish grey colour to show that when Rosalie touches Paloma, she is affected, the audience at this point don't know which reality they are in at this moment in time, are we in the real world or somewhere surreal?

Where this short film is intended to be shown

I think this short film in particular, would be shown at film festivals that are particularly suited for young, new up and coming directors, trying to get their foot in the door and to get recognised by other people, critics and so on.
