Poster Analysis- Shutter Island

This poster is about a psychological thriller called 'Shutter Island', which is directed by Martin Scorsese. The poster is promoting Leonardo DiCaprio, the star performer of the movie by showing his name in large, white font, which stands out against the dark background. The first thing that catches the audience's eye is the island with the white glow surrounding it. The audience then look up above the tower and see Leonardo DiCaprio's face and a match, which could highlight the dark times in this film.

If the audience look closer at the image of the island, it is made up of different photos put together. This image gives us a small insight into the synopsis of the film, suggesting that it involves an investigation trying to piece things together much like a puzzle.

Leonardo DiCaprio's facial expression builds a lot of tension in this poster. He seems to be frightened and confused and worried all at the same time.

The title font is written in a bright red colour which stands out against the dark background, the colour could also symbolise blood which further emphasises the thriller genre of the film.

The image of the island, can also further emphasise the psychological thriller genre, which shows an isolated institution, a quiet place to lock up all away all the people with mental disorders and problems, away from society. October is also written in red, amongst the white credits to make it stand out to the audience.
